For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
This week&#8217;s spin revolves around the anti-Israel protests that spread like wildfire across college campuses around the United States — and how unpopular those protests have become as students took control of public spaces, harassed Jewish students, barricaded themselves in campus buildings, and vandalized property. How unpopular is that, you ask? Unpopular enough that legacy outlets, if there weren&#8217;t enough Democrats willing to criticize the protesters, brought in Republicans to do it for them.
On ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week,&#8221; host Jonathan Karl brought in Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) to discuss the protests, and Cotton made it clear that he had no patience for protests that were essentially parroting Hamas terrorist talking points and then hiding behind the First Amendment, claiming their destructive behavior was protected.

Cotton first laid into the schools for allowing the protests to carry on as long as they did, saying that the schools should have sent security in to prevent or immediately disband illegal encampments the moment the first tent went up.
&#8220;These students on campuses, they deserve our contempt. They also deserve our mockery,&#8221; Cotton said, referencing some of the &#8220;demands&#8221; — including gluten-free and vegan food delivery options — made by students who were illegally squatting in campus buildings.
Cotton also asked why schools had been so reluctant to stop the protests before they turned into full-scale occupations, saying, &#8220;Where were the liberal administrators and liberal politicians sending in the police on the very first day?&#8221;

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) joined Margaret Brennan on CBS&#8217; &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; where he complained that the protesters who were engaging in acts of vandalism and violence — and those who were sharing anti-semitic signs and slogans — were damaging the credibility of what could have been a peaceful and effective protest.
&#8220;Those few protesters who are inciting violence or engaging in that kind of antisemitism are diminishing the thousands of young people who simply want the war to end. I guess I would say, look to John Lewis or Dr. King  — they, in their protests, were above reproach,&#8221; he said.

Khanna went on to suggest that President Joe Biden should visit the campuses where protests are taking place — some of which have been deemed too unsafe for students to attend their final weeks of class or even take final exams — and equated students chanting Hamas talking points while they blocked Jewish students from walking through their &#8220;camps&#8221; to the anti-war protests of the Vietnam era.

On CNN, &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; anchor Jake Tapper brought in former Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), who is now serving as the President of University of Florida — and Sasse argued that the First Amendment should protect speech but did not necessarily extend to actions — especially when those actions included violence and destruction of property.
Sasse noted that protests had not disrupted the commencement ceremonies on his campus, but said that &#8220;the line is between speech and action&#8221; — and students understood that. He said that rather than clear out an illegal encampment, his administration had simply made the rules clear so that they didn&#8217;t set one up in the first place.

On &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; NBC anchor Kristen Welker discussed the protests with former astronaut and Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ). Kelly said that once protesters crossed the line into taking illegal actions — engaging in violence, acts of vandalism, or other crimes — there was no reason for police not to step in and stop them.
&#8220;When they cross a line and when they commit crimes, they should be arrested. That’s the appropriate thing to do,&#8221; he said.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) took things a step further during his appearance on &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; telling anchor Shannon Bream that he&#8217;d support a move to revoke travel visas for any foreign students who showed support for the terrorist group Hamas.
&#8220;Joe Biden — and he hasn&#8217;t done it because he&#8217;s weak and he&#8217;s feeble — but Joe Biden very early on should have done as I asked him to do back in October, if you&#8217;re in the streets of the United States, you&#8217;re here as a visitor, on a visa,&#8221; Rubio said. &#8220;You&#8217;re not an American, you&#8217;re here on a visa and you&#8217;re here to teach or you&#8217;re here to go to school, and you&#8217;re out there chanting on behalf of Hamas and Hezbollah — these terrorist groups, who by the way also hate America — we should revoke your visa.&#8221;

Some of President Joe Biden’s most prominent backers are funding pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas demonstrators who are protesting U.S. support for Israel.
Activist groups such as Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow are in part funded through nonprofit networks involving leftist megadonors such as George Soros, Bill and Melinda Gates, David Rockefeller Jr., and the Pritzker family, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/05/pro-palestinian-protests-columbia-university-funding-donors-00156135" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO</a>.
Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, responsible for organizing protests at universities such as Columbia, are both supported by the Tides Foundation, which is funded by Soros and Gates. Tides also receives money from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, directed by a board that includes David Rockefeller Jr. Nick Pritzker, a wealthy entrepreneur and heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire, and his wife Susan are also donors to Tides.
Tides has given more than half a million dollars to Jewish Voice for Peace over the past five years, according to POLITICO. The foundation claims Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow as “grantee partners.”
The Pritzkers also founded the Libra Foundation, which has financially supported groups such as The Climate Justice Alliance, Black Organizing for Leadership and Dignity, and the Immigrant Defense Project, all of which have expressed opposition to Israel’s actions following Hamas’ October 7 terror attack. The Climate Justice Alliance has organized marches calling Biden “Genocide Joe” over U.S. support for Israel.
Protests have roiled university campuses in recent weeks, resulting in hundreds of arrests after demonstrators took over campus buildings and blocked students from attending classes. Of the roughly 300 people arrested at Columbia University last week, New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://townhall.com/tipsheet/saraharnold/2024/05/01/of-the-300-pro-hamas-agitators-arrested-at-columbia-most-werent-students-n2638521" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that many of them were outside agitators, not students attending the university.
Outside activist groups trained university students for months on civil unrest, according to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/education/student-campus-protests-veteran-activist-groups-17ccd094?mod=hp_lead_pos1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>. One of the groups involved in training students, the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, has expressed open support for Hamas. The Columbia University administration banned the group from campus twice, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
The protests have canceled classes, shut down campuses, and endangered Jewish students. Last week, a Jewish student was denied entry to an anti-Israel protest at MIT, but police eventually agreed to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jewish-student-needs-police-escort-to-enter-mit-anti-israel-encampment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">escort</a> him through the encampment.

The unrest over the Israel-Hamas conflict is part of a push from Biden’s left flank to cut off U.S. support for Israel. Biden appears to have made overtures to leftists, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pentagon-estimates-gaza-aid-pier-will-cost-us-taxpayers-320m-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investing</a> hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into building a pier to facilitate aid into Gaza and increasing pressure on Israel to provide assistance, as well.
The campus unrest has sparked a backlash from more moderate Democrats. Biden spoke from the White House last week condemning violence and illegality on university campuses. The president condemned “Islamophobia” alongside antisemitism during his remarks.
“There should be no place on any campus, no place in America for antisemitism or threats of violence against Jewish students. There is no place for hate speech or violence of any kind, whether it’s antisemitism, Islamophobia, or discrimination against Arab Americans or Palestinian Americans,” Biden <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2024/05/02/remarks-by-president-biden-on-recent-events-on-college-campuses/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

COLEMAN: Thanks for having me.
JOHN: So I want to start with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sunny-hostin-gets-wrecked-after-accusing-independent-author-of-being-co-opted-by-republicans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a> you did with The View that went viral last month. One of the hosts, Sunny Hostin, branded you a “conservative” and suggested you&#8217;re being used as a pawn by the Right. What do you make of that encounter and the stir it caused – and how would you define your perspective ideologically?
COLEMAN: So, I&#8217;m a political independent, I&#8217;ve only voted twice. I&#8217;m 28-years-old, so that&#8217;s a function of my age. Both times I voted for Democrats – Hillary and Biden, though I&#8217;m not opposed to voting for Republicans. So those are my politics. What I make of that appearance was that Sunny Hostin, rather than address my arguments, she sought to paint me as somehow a compromised individual, either financially compromised or ethically compromised. And instead of attacking her on the same grounds, I just kind of calmly debunked her accusations and then moved back to the topic. I think the contrast between how she was arguing in such bad faith and how I just calmly responded, I think that contrast is what made the moment go semi-viral, because that&#8217;s just something you don&#8217;t see on daytime television. I think people were struck by that.
JOHN: Before we get to your book, I wanted to ask you about something else that’s been in the headlines: the anti-Israel protests we’re seeing at elite universities. You graduated from Columbia, which has been a hub for these protests. Do you see a correlation with the kinds of protests we&#8217;re seeing on campuses and the emphasis on Diversity Equity and Inclusion in academia? Is there a crossover between this Left-wing protest culture and DEI?
COLEMAN: So I think the thing people don&#8217;t understand about DEI and why people criticize DEI is that DEI is an ideology. DEI is the ideology, which says that you can divide the world into oppressors and oppressed. White people are the oppressors, Jews are the oppressors, and the oppressed are black people, brown people, Hispanics, and so forth. DEI departments and DEI bureaucracies are usually clusters of bureaucrats who basically buy into this philosophy. But it&#8217;s the philosophy itself that is the problem and that philosophy is very much synced up with the protests you&#8217;re seeing now on Ivy League campuses where Jews in general are seen as oppressors, as “colonizers,” really. That very much syncs up with the DEI bureaucracies that have generally viewed white people and Jews as oppressors who are not really subject to the same protections as students of “color.”

JOHN: This gets us to the premise for your book, and many of the statements you&#8217;ve made publicly, which is that we need to strive for a colorblind society. First, how do you define color blindness within the context of modern society?
COLEMAN: For me, color blindness isn&#8217;t pretending not to notice race because, as adults at least, we all notice race. But, what colorblindness really should mean, at its deepest level, is that we try our very best to treat people without regard to race, both in our personal lives and in our public policy. So, I tell you I&#8217;m gonna do my best not to treat you differently because of your race. I&#8217;m going to ask that you do the same to me, and we&#8217;re both going to ask that our government does not treat us differently based upon our skin color. And whenever the government has a legitimate interest in trying to help disadvantaged people, we&#8217;d ask that they do that on the basis of class, income, wealth, socio-economic measures, rather than based on the color of my skin or my racial identity. If you&#8217;re for what I just said, you&#8217;re for colorblindness as I define it in my book.
JOHN: You contrast this colorblind ideal to the concept of what you call “neo-racism” and its emergence in contemporary discourse. How do you define neo-racism and how does it differ from traditional forms of racism? 
COLEMAN: So, the philosophy I just described as DEI is fairly close to the philosophy I call neo-racism in the book. It&#8217;s a philosophy that says Whiteness is inherently bad and anything but whiteness is inherently good, inherently morally superior. This is a philosophy that was pretty marginal in American life for many decades. You could find it in Critical Race Theory seminars for many decades, but you&#8217;d never encounter it if you were just a normal person navigating typical spaces. Until about 2013, when we all got smartphones with cameras, and everyone and their mother was on Facebook, that fundamentally changed how information spread. And that caused a scenario where people were now seeing unrepresentative, misleading clips of police firing on unarmed black Americans, preferentially promoted in their social media algorithms, which gave the false impression that racism was on the rise, when in fact, it&#8217;s been on the decline for many, many decades. When that happened, the ground became fertile in people&#8217;s minds for this philosophy of neo-racism, or DEI, to spread way beyond the narrow corners of the academy where it used to live. It then spread into your social media feeds, into your K-12 classrooms, where now you have kids essentially being taught that whiteness is a bad thing and taught to be ashamed of their race. You have black kids and Hispanic kids taught to exaggerate their victimhood and wear it as a kind of badge of pride. All of this has wreaked havoc on race relations. All of it is a backslide from what is the proper goal, namely the goal of the civil rights movement, which is to denounce racism in all its forms, whoever it&#8217;s directed at, and to emphasize our common humanity. The fact that beneath this skin, we are all more alike than we are different. The essential fact about you is not the race or the group that you belong to, it&#8217;s your personal qualities. It&#8217;s how you treat people. It&#8217;s your values and so forth. So, that&#8217;s how I describe it.
JOHN: You bring up the civil rights movement. There&#8217;s an ongoing attempt to co-opt Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In recent years. We&#8217;re being told that his message was far different than most people remember it — that he doesn&#8217;t want people judged by the color of their skin — but that he actually had a different vision, a much more DEI and sort of Marxism-aligned vision. Can you explain that debate and which side you stand on?
COLEMAN: Well, as for Marxism,  it&#8217;s just a historical fact that he rejected Marxism. Anyone can read his essay called “<a href="https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/king-papers/documents/my-pilgrimage-nonviolence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">My Pilgrimage to Nonviolence</a>” where he explicitly talks about why he rejected Marxism. But on this larger question of what did Dr. King believe? Every year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, there&#8217;s a series of articles in the Huffington Post and various liberal outlets, Left-leaning outlets, – and they&#8217;re all the same article, they all say the same thing. They say Dr. Martin Luther King was a radical and they imply that he would kind of agree with woke anti-racists like Ibram X. Kendi, Ta Nehisi Coates, the Black Lives Matter movement, and so forth. But they all do the same thing, which is they lie by doing a bait and switch. They say Martin Luther King was a radical, and then the only quotes and arguments they can pull from to prove that have nothing to do with race. They have to do with other topics, like, for instance, MLK was against the Vietnam War before that was a popular position. So he was considered an anti-war radical, he was a pacifist, which was very controversial at the time, in the mid-60s. And he was also for things like universal health care and a guaranteed minimum wage, what you would call today kind of Democratic Socialism of a Bernie Sanders variety. Again, that was very controversial then too. None of those ideas, however, have anything to do with the issues he is alleged to have been a radical on – namely, racial identity, the importance of race. He never wavered on that issue. He always felt that the important thing was common humanity, not to divide black from white, not to judge people based on the color of their skin, but rather on the content of their character and steadfastly against policies that discriminated in any direction on the basis of race. No one&#8217;s ever been able to show that he supported those things because he didn&#8217;t, and he was very clear about that. So you have many scholars on the Left saying that the Right are the people that have sanitized and co-opted Dr. King&#8217;s legacy. In fact, the opposite is closer to the truth. It&#8217;s the so-called “anti-racists” that have had to ignore half of what Dr. King said in order to make it seem like he would agree with what they&#8217;re doing today, which he wouldn&#8217;t.
JOHN: What do you see as the main drawbacks of anti-racism or neo-racism, particularly in its effects on social progress and its impact on black individuals?
COLEMAN: One of the negative effects it&#8217;s had on black people is to persuade us that current discrimination is the main cause of black standing relative to white Americans. It&#8217;s made a kind of toxic victimhood mentality the norm – where I really don&#8217;t think that that kind of a mindset, which blames white supremacy for everything, is useful. First of all, it&#8217;s not true. And so it&#8217;s a misdiagnosis of the problems that still do pervade, especially intergenerationally poor pockets of black America. The problem in those places is not white supremacy, but neo-racism has so convinced enough people that white supremacy is the problem, that all the efforts have been directed essentially at the sort of anti-racist, DEI programs that do nothing to address the root cause of the problem. The root cause of the problem with intergenerational poverty, both black, white, Hispanic, and so forth, is that we have to do a much better job helping people between the ages of 0 and 18, at the pre-K age, and at the K-12 level. Things like race-based affirmative action at the college level, corporate DEI programs, they don&#8217;t even touch the source of the issue. And yet those have been the focus because neo-racism has misdiagnosed the problem.
JOHN: What are some of the policies or approaches or even philosophies that would be helpful for addressing those ages 0 to 18?
COLEMAN: I think the most important study that I know of that points the direction of where we ought to go is by the economist Roland Fryer at Harvard. He did a study where he was able to essentially take over 11 or 12 of the lowest performing public schools in Houston. He fired half the teachers, fired almost all the principals, and extended the school day. He looked at how the best Charter Schools in New York City operated and he imported those protocols into the public schools. And he was able to raise test scores, all kinds of good results, which are extremely rare to see in public school research. I think that kind of thing is really the direction we have to be moving toward. Unfortunately, in any normal scenario, all of his interventions are impossible due to unions and so forth. I think that&#8217;s really the direction we have to go in.
JOHN: What role do elite American institutions play in perpetuating racism? You have a lot of experience in them, so do I. How can they be transformed into allies in the fight against these issues, this neo-racism?
COLEMAN: Well, unfortunately, elite institutions are the places where neo-racism has taken its firmest and deepest root. So, I&#8217;m talking about elite universities, Ivy League universities, corporations, museums, all these kinds of elite spaces – journalism and media, where it has become normal  to essentially judge people based on the color of their skin. It has become unacceptable to question someone&#8217;s allegation of racism. And so it, it&#8217;s become very normal for there to be false examples of racism. It&#8217;s become difficult to speak or disagree about topics related to race for fear of one&#8217;s career, fear of getting fired, fear of getting canceled. And there has to be a critical mass of people in these institutions who say, “enough.”
JOHN: Are there alternatives now? Or do you see them in the works — these institutions or education models that are providing some hope in terms of really addressing the issues that will actually elevate people who are in poverty status?.
COLEMAN: So, at the K-12 level, you&#8217;ve seen certain charter schools that are extremely successful with precisely the kids that the system has generally given up on. Not to say all charter schools are successful, some are terrible, but the ones that are good are really good and they are better than public schools at dealing with kids that come from disadvantaged backgrounds, single parent homes, and so forth. Someone like Ian Rowe is a great resource on that issue, he runs charter schools in New York. At the college level, you have the University of Austin in Texas, which has tried to pioneer a different approach, a less ideological approach, or rather a classical liberal approach, really. An approach that values free speech and viewpoint diversity, which at this point, most of the elite colleges and universities have abandoned as an ideal – choosing instead social justice, anti-racism, anti-colonialism as their highest ideals. And, yeah, so I think those two educational models at the K through 12 level and at the college level point a direction forward. In terms of media, I write for the Free Press, which Barry Weiss started as an alternative media source, giving people really rigorous journalism, long-form journalism, investigative journalism, the stuff you can only do if you&#8217;re like a legitimate, resourced, journalism outlet – but without the woke bias, without the liberal slant that has been endemic in most journalistic institutions.
JOHN: Well, we’re certainly sympathetic to that view here – trying to provide an alternative to this liberal slant in the media is part of the reason we created this show. Coleman, thank you so much for joining us today.

Columbia President Minouche Shafik said Friday that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/anti-israel-protesters-at-columbia-take-over-campus-building-barricade-themselves-inside" target="_blank" rel="noopener">occupation</a> of a campus building by anti-Israel protesters was a “violent act” that placed the campus community in danger. 
In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuDsfPv0qOA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> put out Friday, Shafik spoke about the unrest that had roiled the campus after students and others protesting Israel’s war with Hamas set up an encampment on campus and demanded the university cut off any ties to Israel. Shafik has faced criticism from some who said she allowed the encampment to go on too long while others accused her of reacting too strongly. 
“These past two weeks have been among the most difficult in Colombia&#8217;s history. The turmoil and tension, division and disruption have impacted the entire community. You, our students, have paid an especially high price,” she said. “We tried very hard to resolve the issue of the encampment through dialogue.”
She then said that the university was ultimately unable to reach an agreement with the protesters before referencing the occupation of Columbia’s Hamilton Hall by anti-Israel protesters. Early Tuesday morning, protesters barricaded themselves inside while they demanded the school to divest from Israel while smashing windows and unfurling an &#8220;intifada&#8221; banner from the building. They used tables, chairs, and other objects to block entry into the building. 
“A group of protesters crossed a new line with the occupation of Hamilton Hall,” Shafik said. “It was a violent act that put our students at risk, as well as putting the protesters at risk. I walked through the building and saw the damage which was distressing.”
The storming came after Shafik said that the university would not be divesting from Israel.

Hours after the building was occupied, the New York Police Department <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nypd-storms-columbias-hamilton-hall-after-pro-hamas-protesters-illegally-took-control-of-building" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stormed</a> the building in riot gear, arresting protesters and clearing out the occupation. Shafik pinned much of the blame of the occupation on outside activists. “We believe that while the group who broke into the building includes students, it is led by individuals who are not affiliated with the University,” she said. 
New York City Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-adams-says-columbia-anti-israel-protest-was-co-opted-authorities-saw-evidence-of-training" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agreed</a>, saying that police found evidence that professionals had shown up and conducted trainings. 
“This is a global problem that young people are being influenced by those who are professionals at radicalizing our children and I’m not going to allow that to happen as the mayor of the city of New York,” he said.

Surgical referral letters are one of the few safeguards that stand between those suffering from gender dysphoria and life-altering operations that seek to change their sex, but ideologically-motivated therapists have set out to make these letters as easily available as possible, viewing their work as a form of political activism rather than a serious medical precaution.
Many surgical clinics require that those who wish to undergo double mastectomies, hysterectomies, phalloplasties, or other operations aimed at change one’s sex must first receive a letter documenting their mental health. Ideologically-motivated pro-transgender activists, however, have dropped all pretenses that these letters are genuine attempts to discern the mental state of potential patients.
Licensed therapists identified by The Daily Wire instead openly refer to letter-writing as a form of “allyship” that can be performed as an act of resistance against alleged oppression. Moe Brown, who <a href="https://learning.simplepractice.com/courses/referral-letters-for-gender-affirming-medical-care">describes</a> herself as “a Transgender Identified therapist, public speaker, and writer,” describes the letter-writing process as a form of political activism to be undertaken by allies.
Brown offers a continuing education course on surgical letter referrals with a <a href="https://learning.simplepractice.com/courses/referral-letters-for-gender-affirming-medical-care">description</a> that reads, “For every clinician that identifies as an ally for the Transgender community, this course is necessary in order to expand your allyship and support as you may be the deciding factor in the medical transition of a transgender person.”
Seattle-based therapist Shaquille Sinclair, a <a href="https://www.inclusivetherapists.com/washington/seattle/shaquille-sinclair">self-described</a> &#8220;queer Black Jamaican&#8221; who offers free transgender surgical referral letters and enjoys “working with queer/trans folks,” calls therapy a form of resistance.
“I frame the therapeutic space as entirely non-neutral. It is a place of resistance, or we get to recreate the ways we relate to systems,” Sinclair writes. He notes that his professional focuses include “abolitionism” and “black liberation” and also calls himself a “sex worker ally.”
This ideological bent is not limited to individual professionals. Organizations exist with the express intent of making these letters as readily available as possible. The Gender Affirming Letter Access Project (GALAP) opposes the requirement that people receive medical letters before undergoing sex change operations altogether, but has resolved to make letters readily accessible “before clinical practice shifts toward a more socially just model.”
GALAP describes itself as “a group of transgender, nonbinary, and allied mental health and medical providers” who advocate against the surgical letter requirement. “Putting mental health providers in a position of gatekeeping negatively impacts the client-provider relationship and leads to abuses of power,” GALAP says on <a href="https://www.thegalap.org/about">its website</a>, calling on mental health providers to “publicly commit to providing gender-affirming care for medical transition without undue gatekeeping practices.”
It is from this ideological position that GALAP operates, intending to make letters available free of charge while simultaneously advocating for letter requirements to be ditched altogether.
In other <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/los-angeles-public-schools-partner-with-couple-that-pushes-sex-change-surgery-on-children">instances</a> this ideological agenda also appears to be tethered to financial incentives. Aydin and Johnna Olson-Kennedy are a married couple in Los Angeles that have worked on both sides of the pipeline to sex change surgeries — providing both the surgical referral letters and the surgeries themselves.
Aydin, a licensed clinical social worker who identifies as transgender, <a href="https://www.aoklcsw.com/new-page-1">writes letters</a> to allow minors to undergo sex change operations for free, claiming that requiring letters at all is oppressive. “I believe the mandate for letters to access gender-affirming medical procedures is inherently discriminatory,” <a href="https://www.aoklcsw.com/new-page-2">her site reads</a>, adding that the requirement threatens to “reinforce systemic biases.” Aydin offers these letters free of charge, saying that she intends to “de-pathologize the transgender experience” and is <a href="https://www.aoklcsw.com/about-5">committed</a> to offering her “support and advocacy for the transgender community and their families.”
While Aydin Olson-Kennedy is trusted to assess the mental readiness of those who want to undergo sex change operations, she previously <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20170220090227/https://gendertrender.wordpress.com/2015/08/21/aydin-olson-kennedy-msw-urges-gender-surgery-for-down-syndrome-child-in-intensive-care-unit/">shared a fundraiser</a> for a child with down syndrome to receive a double mastectomy.
Aydin’s wife, Johanna Olson-Kennedy, is the medical director of <a href="https://www.chla.org/profile/johanna-olson-kennedy-md">The Center for Transyouth Health</a> at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which sees children as young as three and has been <a href="https://www.statnews.com/2016/12/20/transgender-youth-doctors-clinics/">called</a> the largest trans youth clinic in the country. It has also partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District to advertise its offerings to the parents of young children.
There’s also Sarah Eley, a mental health clinician who argued at a conference that mental health providers should <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/health/2022/10/12/watch-therapist-gets-sex-change-operations-approved-in-as-few-sessions-as-possible-acts-as-ally/">act as “allies”</a> when writing letters for people who want to undergo sex change surgeries. Rather than dispassionately assessing a patient’s mental health, Eley states that “our role is to really help them get to that next step in the process.”
Eley made it clear that she wants people to be able to access sex change operations as quickly as possible. “The less sessions the better,” she said, referring to mental health assessments in preparation for writing a medical letter. “In writing these letters we look at our own internal biases.” A <a href="https://www.lgbtqiahealtheducation.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Gender-Affirming-Surgery-Letters-Presentation2020.pdf">presentation</a> from Eley discusses “practicing allyship through letter assessments” and claims that sex change operations are often “life savers” before recommending books on “trans allyship.”
The ease of receiving surgical referral letters may have facilitated the drastic increase in operations that attempt to change people&#8217;s sex. One <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/23/health/gender-affirming-surgery-study/index.html">2023 study</a> found that the number of sex change operations performed in the United States tripled between 2016 and 2019. The number of children between the ages of 13 to 17 who&#8217;ve undergone double mastectomies has similarly grown, steadily increasing <a href="https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-transyouth-data/">every year</a> from 2019 to 2021. The number of children between the ages of 6 and 17 who&#8217;ve undergone hormone therapy has jumped from just over 1,900 in 2017 to over 4,200 in 2021, increasing every year in between.
While the scale of sex change operations has spiked in the United States, more liberal European countries like <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20230208-sweden-puts-brakes-on-treatments-for-trans-minors">Sweden</a> and <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/13/uk/england-nhs-puberty-blockers-trans-children-intl-gbr/index.html">England</a> have taken steps to limit the availability of medical interventions that seek to change the sex of patients. The Scandinavian country stopped hormone therapy for minors with few exceptions while England&#8217;s National Health Service stopped prescribing puberty blockers.
Moe Brown, Shaquille Sinclair, and GALAP did not respond to requests for comment.

North Dakota Republican Governor Doug Burgum defended former President Donald Trump on Sunday against the criminal charges he faces from the Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office.
Burgum made the remarks during an interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with host Jake Tapper.
&#8220;I&#8217;m a business guy. This is a business filing case,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If it was anybody other than a presidential candidate, this would be a misdemeanor. How it got turned into 34 felonies, when there isn&#8217;t even the alleged crime, which is &#8212; they haven&#8217;t even convinced anybody there was a crime.&#8221;
&#8220;But if it were, it would be a Federal Election Commission crime. And that would be pursued by the federal courts, not by a county DA in New York,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And so I think, again, Americans, the outcome of this trial doesn&#8217;t affect them.&#8221;
He said that the trial was nothing more than &#8220;a spectacle for cable TV, but average Americans have already baked in what they think about President Trump, President Biden, they&#8217;re looking at the policies, not at the people, and they were better off under President Trump&#8217;s policies.&#8221;
Burgum said he was looking forward to next January when &#8220;Vice President Harris certifies the election for Donald Trump.&#8221;

In the days since President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration published sweeping <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/grotesque-betrayal-of-students-critics-blast-bidens-new-title-ix-regulations-championing-gender-identity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revisions to Title IX</a> rules, much of the focus has been on how the updates are likely to impact female athletes — but that&#8217;s far from the only concern.
Critics quickly pointed out that those updates, which the Biden administration said were supposed to provide more protections for LGBTQ students, could be used to protect trans-identifying males competing on women&#8217;s sports teams.
But according to attorney Candice Jackson, who served as Acting Assistant Secretary in the Department of Education during the Trump administration, the rule changes could lead to further complications once applied in conjunction with policies that are already in place — specifically with regard to schools being &#8220;mandatory reporters&#8221; of suspected abuse.

The upshot, according to Jackson&#8217;s reading of the new rules, is that the Biden administration views a failure to affirm a student&#8217;s gender identity as an action that could be damaging to that child&#8217;s mental health. Based on that interpretation, parents who are not proactive in affirming their children&#8217;s gender identities could be viewed as contributing to that damage.
And because educators are legally mandated to report any suspected abuse to Child Protective Services, they may have no choice but to report parents who refuse to help their children seek medical transition — or even those who object to schools that socially transition their children.
Biden&#8217;s Title IX rewrite comes on the heels of news that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illinois-bill-changes-definition-of-abused-child-to-include-kids-whose-parents-object-to-abortion-transgender-hormones-and-surgeries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">state of Illinois</a> was already planning to revise the definition of abuse to include a refusal to accommodate gender identity — a move that could empower the state, through Child Protective Services, to remove children from homes where parents did not affirm the new gender identity or help the children to obtain puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or even surgeries.

Kim Godwin announced on Sunday evening that she was stepping down from her role as president ABC News — and retiring, effective immediately.
Godwin, who in 2021 became the first black person to run a broadcast television news division, resigned after corporate restructuring &#8220;stripped away much of her management autonomy,&#8221; The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/media/abc-news-president-kim-godwin-is-stepping-down-28bf9617">reported</a>.
&#8220;I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,&#8221; she said in a lengthy statement to company staff. &#8220;Anyone who&#8217;s passionate about what we do knows there&#8217;s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision. But after considerable reflection, I&#8217;m certain it&#8217;s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what&#8217;s most important for me and my family.&#8221;

Police in Pennsylvania said that a man tried to murder a pastor at a church in North Braddock on Sunday while he delivered a sermon to his congregation.
Police said that 26-year-old Bernard Junior Polite entered the Jesus Dwelling Place Church a little after 1 p.m. EST and &#8220;attempted to shoot the pastor as he was giving a sermon.&#8221;
&#8220;Polite pointed a firearm at the pastor, attempted to shoot, but the firearm failed to discharge,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;A congregation member took immediate action by grabbing onto Polite. The member and the pastor were able to subdue and disarm Polite. Polite was held until Troopers arrived.&#8221;
The statement said that charges were filed for attempted homicide.

Pastor Glenn Germany, who was the target of the attempted shooting, <a href="https://www.wtae.com/article/braddock-church-gun-pulled-on-pastor/60694951">said</a>: &#8220;I&#8217;m thankful to God that I&#8217;m still here, because he definitely pulled the trigger.&#8221;
He told local media that he had never seen the suspect before that day but noticed that he had been coming in and out of the building and made direct eye contact with him.
&#8220;I started to begin to preach and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he set up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me,&#8221; Germany said. &#8220;All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover.&#8221;
He praised the member of his congregation who ran in and tackled the suspect.
&#8220;He could have lost his life in that struggle,&#8221; Germany said. &#8220;But he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he&#8217;s the hero.&#8221;

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) defended this week some of former President Donald Trump&#8217;s claims about the 2020 presidential election.
Cotton made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Jonathan Karl on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; while talking about the possibility that Cotton could be a potential vice presidential pick for Trump.
Cotton said that it would not be helpful to Trump if he was out there advocating for himself to be the VP pick.
&#8220;What Donald Trump is focused on is winning this election,&#8221; he said. &#8220;What I&#8217;m focused on is helping him win and making sure Republicans win the Congress. When he&#8217;s ready to make his decision about vice president, he will. Afterwards, he&#8217;ll make his decision about the cabinet. Until then, anyone out campaigning for the job or pushing for the job is not helpful to what we should all be focused on, which is winning the election.&#8221;
When asked whether former Vice President Mike Pence did the right on January 6th, Cotton responded: &#8220;Look, I think the Constitution was clear that neither the Congress nor the vice president had the ability to reject those electors. It&#8217;s also clear that it wasn&#8217;t going to work because Nancy Pelosi controlled the House.&#8221;
He defended Trump&#8217;s actions on that day, saying that he &#8220;put out videos and he put out statements on social media telling those rioters to stand down.&#8221;
&#8220;Jon, he says, and I agree, that the election was not fair, and it was rigged in many ways with Democratic states and cities changing election law and election practices up to the last minute, with the media, to include your network, and 51 Democratic intelligence operatives saying the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation and social media then censoring all those things,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Those were all deeply unfair.&#8221;

The following is an edited transcript of a recent interview between Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley and former British Prime Minister Liz Truss on a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/morning-wire/ten-years-to-save-the-west-with-liz-truss-sunday-extra" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunday Extra edition of Morning Wire</a>. They discuss the importance of conservative leadership, the deep state, and her new book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ten-Years-Save-West-Truss/dp/1684515513" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ten Years to Save The West.</a>”
JOHN: Joining us now is Liz Truss, former U.K. prime minister in 2022. She is the author of “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ten-Years-Save-West-Truss/dp/1684515513" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ten Years to Save the West: Leading the Revolution Against Globalism, Socialism, and the Liberal Establishment</a>.” Liz, thank you for joining us.
LIZ: Great to be on the show. 
JOHN: First, You’ve had time to reflect on your time as prime minister – brief as it was – what did you learn during your term?
LIZ: Well, I think the biggest thing I learned is the sheer power of the term “establishment” and the administrative state. Before I got to that job, I had spent 10 years in the British government. I had worked in the environment department, I had been a minister in justice and when I hit a brick wall, I assumed it was because I wasn&#8217;t senior enough. So when I got to the position of prime minister and I saw my plans essentially thwarted, I really understood just how powerful the establishment and the administrative state is.
JOHN: You tried to execute your vision of Britain as a low-tax, low-regulation, high-growth country – what happened? And why wasn’t the country ready for that?
LIZ: Well, I felt that it was the only way to get Britain back on track. We&#8217;d been stagnating for a few decades, economic growth hadn&#8217;t been high enough. The government was spending almost half of our national income taxes on the federal government — taxes which are at a 70-year high. I could only see the situation getting worse, so I wanted to change the trajectory and that vision did have popular support. I won the mandate of Conservative Party members. It was popular, in terms of the public.
When we put those policies forward, they included things like getting on with fracking, holding down government expenditure, reducing taxes, and reducing regulation, the economic establishment, including the Bank of England and the Office of Budget Responsibility — which is a bit like the Congressional Budget Office in the United States — those organizations actively work to undermine the policies and undermine the policies in the market.
What do I mean by that? Well, the day before we announced our budget, the Bank of England announced that it was selling 40 billion pounds worth of government gilts (bonds). So that was making it harder for us to fund the government. They didn&#8217;t tell us there was a tinderbox of bad regulation of pension funds — pension funds that were very, very susceptible to small changes in the interest rate. We were blindsided by that. And then, when the Bank of England stepped in to fix that problem, they said they would only do it for 17 days, thereby creating a deadline in the market. All the time, while they were doing these things, they were blaming the government&#8217;s policy for what was happening, rather than acknowledging their own mistakes. So, that is essentially what happened. The problem was, I was unaware that those problems existed. So when the media, as is the habit in Britain, started its “gotcha” activities, I did not know what was going on. And that was fundamentally extremely difficult.

JOHN: You phrased this in an interesting way in a recent speech at the Heritage Foundation. You talked about the “anti-growth” movement that&#8217;s focused on, as you put it, “redistributionism, stagnation, and the imbuing of woke culture into our businesses.” What did you mean by that? 
LIZ: What we&#8217;ve ended up with in Britain is a corporate sector big government. By that I mean the civil service and the government agencies, what we call “quangos” in Britain — quasi government organizations — and the wider media. They tend to live in London and the South East and they tend to benefit from government largesse. They don&#8217;t want the size of government to be reduced, they don&#8217;t want the subsidies to their business to be reduced, particularly if they&#8217;re in sectors like green energy. And they don&#8217;t want regulations to be reduced because they don&#8217;t want competition. So these people have been benefiting from the status quo. 
The problem is, for the average person in Britain, their life isn&#8217;t getting any better. They&#8217;ve seen massive inflation, they haven&#8217;t seen their wages go up, and they haven&#8217;t seen the economy grow. It&#8217;s become harder and harder to run a small business, because of all of the red tape. So you&#8217;ve got a real disconnect between those who benefit from the current status quo of big government, high taxes, high regulation, high immigration, and the average person in Britain who is struggling because of the very high cost of living.

JOHN: In your book, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ten-Years-Save-West-Truss/dp/1684515513">Ten Years to Save the West</a>,” you emphasize the importance of conservative leadership, not only in England, but also the U.S. In your view, why is conservative leadership key to saving the West? 
LIZ: All of the problems we&#8217;ve got are due to bad ideas on the Left. Whether it&#8217;s Keynesian economics, the idea that the government can run the economy; whether it&#8217;s the climate change measures that are stopping us from producing enough energy; whether it&#8217;s the wokery in our schools saying that kids have 100 genders; or the DEI agenda pursued by major corporations, which means they&#8217;re not focused on delivering valuable products and delivering profits to their shareholders — they&#8217;re focused on ticking boxes and doing identity politics. All of those bad ideas have come from the Left and the issue is conservatives have not taken these ideas on enough. Instead, we&#8217;ve kowtowed to them, you know, we&#8217;ve tried to meet them halfway, and that has resulted in the current stagnation we&#8217;re experiencing, and it&#8217;s not just economic stagnation, it&#8217;s also a sense that, certainly in Britain, our country is not moving forward. People want the future to be better than the past, but it is not clear that that is happening. The other issue is the Left has been very effective at in Britain is embedding a human rights culture into our legal system, which essentially makes it very, very hard to deport illegal immigrants. The priority put on keeping illegal immigrants in the country seems to be higher than the priority of people already living in the country and people are immensely frustrated about that. Unfortunately, there are too many conservatives who want to be popular at London dinner parties, who want to get good corporate jobs, who have essentially gone along with this leftward drift. And that is the problem we&#8217;re facing. And that&#8217;s why conservatives need to fight back, in order to make our country dynamic again and put the power back in the hands of people and families rather than the power lying in the hands of unelected bureaucrats, which is where the power at the moment lies.
JOHN: And is that part of the reason you&#8217;ve been a supporter of Brexit? Does this connect politically and ideologically? 
LIZ: Yes it does, because Brexit was all about returning power from an unelected bureaucracy in Brussels to people in Britain. The problem is that while people voted for Brexit, we still have all the E.U. laws on our statute books, because the bureaucrats in London don&#8217;t want to change things. Because they are happy with high levels of regulation, it gives them more power, it gives them more influence. They do not want to see power returned to the people, and the people in Britain are very frustrated because they voted for change when they voted for Brexit in 2016. They voted again for change when they voted for Boris Johnson in huge numbers, and lots of people who didn&#8217;t normally vote conservative, people from what you would call the Rust Belt in America, voted conservative for the first time because they wanted to see a change and they wanted to see the status quo disrupted. The problem, however, is that the bureaucratic establishment, the corporate establishment in Britain, do not want to see that change happen and they&#8217;re resisting it. I&#8217;m somebody who went into government to try and change that and I got thoroughly trounced by what they did to undermine my policies.
JOHN: How do you feel about the current leadership? What direction do you feel like they&#8217;re taking the country? 
LIZ: Well, I want to see much stronger focus on conservative principles. We have to be honest with the British public. The reason why we haven&#8217;t been able to deal with illegal immigration, the reason why people&#8217;s energy bills are so high, the reason why people&#8217;s taxes are so high is that we have not taken on the administrative state, and we have not reversed all of the regulations and laws that Tony Blair put in place in Britain. I think we need to be honest with people and we need to be prepared to be much bolder in taking on these institutions that have acquired too much power in Britain. My book walks through my ten years in government and all the battles I had and the fact that, too often, decisions that used to be in the hands of elected representatives now lie in the hands of unelected bureaucrats. And the public are rightly frustrated by that, and I think conservatives have to be honest about the state we&#8217;re in and be prepared to make some very serious changes.
JOHN: You&#8217;ve talked a lot about the U.S. and what it needs to do – obviously we have a major election going on and polls show it’s a very tight race. If Donald Trump is elected, do you have hope for the U.S. to turn around some of this bureaucratic “stagnation,” as you say, in the sense that it&#8217;s difficult to make real changes in Washington? 
LIZ: I think you&#8217;ve got real problems with the administrative state here in the United States, who do not want to see the Trump agenda enacted. I want to see Donald Trump get elected as president, but that will not be enough. He needs to dismantle the administrative state. I&#8217;m very supportive of those changes because I know what it&#8217;s like to be in the trenches fighting against officialdom when you don&#8217;t have the power to change things. So, yes, he needs to win. I think if he wins and he successfully takes on the bureaucratic state, that will be a huge win for the West and it will send a signal to countries like the U.K. about what can be done.
JOHN: Final question. What is not being emphasized enough in British and American media in terms of the national political conversation?
LIZ: Well, the thing I&#8217;m trying to really highlight in my book is the way that unelected bureaucrats have seized power, in both of our countries, and the need to take them on. Too often politicians, and I&#8217;ve been there myself, get the blame for everything that happens. While that is not right, it&#8217;s also not going to help us fix our countries. We&#8217;ve seen the way woke, Left-wing ideas have taken over institutions. Look at what&#8217;s happening in universities in the United States, the appalling anti-Semitism that is being condoned by senior figures in those universities. That shows to me a system that has gone completely wrong. So, I want people to understand the scale of change we are going to need to see to deliver conservative ideas. We&#8217;re not in the 1970s or 1980s anymore. The Left has found new ways of fighting us. They&#8217;re not just fighting us in the ballot boxes, they&#8217;re fighting us in the institutions, they&#8217;re fighting us through the courts and we need to be absolutely resolute to take them on.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed the pro-Hamas protesters this week who recently took over college campuses across the U.S., saying that they deserve to be hated and to be mocked.
Cotton made the remarks during a Sunday interview on ABC News&#8217; &#8220;This Week&#8221; with Jonathan Karl when asked about the recent encampments at dozens of universities.
Cotton slammed President Joe Biden for waiting too long before coming out and condemning what was happening on the campuses.
&#8220;It was two weeks after these pro-Hamas fanatics had taken over a lot of campuses, and set up these little Gazas,&#8221; he said. &#8220;He didn&#8217;t specifically speak to what they&#8217;re saying and what they&#8217;re doing. They&#8217;re chanting final solution. They&#8217;re telling Jews to go back to where they came from. They&#8217;re spray-painting buildings with vile, antisemitic hate.&#8221;
&#8220;He said, well, we shouldn&#8217;t have antisemitism or hate speech in the abstract or Islamophobia,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Where are the encampments, Jon, on campuses spreading Islamophobia? Why is Joe Biden so equivocal? Why does he have to draw moral equivalence between thousands of students who are setting up these little Gazas all across America.&#8221;
Karl then tried to claim that Cotton was mocking the situation happening inside Gaza, to which Cotton responded that everything that was happening was Hamas&#8217; fault.
&#8220;Yet Joe Biden, for seven months, has leaned on Israel, has pressured Benjamin Netanyahu, has told him to stand down when they get attacked by Iran, has said they can&#8217;t go into the last holdout where Hamas has its final terrorist battalions,&#8221; Cotton continued. &#8220;But, no, these students on campuses, they deserved our contempt. They also deserved our mockery. I mean, they&#8217;re out there in their N95 masks in open air, with their — with their gluten allergies, demanding that Uber Eats gets delivered to them.&#8221;
&#8220;They should not have been allowed to fester on campus for two weeks when these liberal administrators and liberal politicians refused to send in the police to clear them out the very first day they set up their tents,&#8221; he continued.
Cotton also called out Biden for not deporting foreign agitators who contributed to the situation on college campuses.

The classified documents case against former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> &#8220;reeks&#8221; of the FBI&#8217;s infamous Russia collusion investigation, a top official in his administration said on Sunday.
Former Director of National Intelligence <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-ratcliffe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Ratcliffe</a> made the comparison to Crossfire Hurricane while speaking to Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo.
Alluding to special counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s team <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/03/mar-a-lago-trump-classified-documents-00156124" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conceding</a> last week that documents seized by the FBI may have become jumbled despite previously saying otherwise, Ratcliffe suggested there was evidence tampering.
&#8220;What Jack Smith admitted in court this week was that, in his words, they mishandled the classified documents and misrepresented those to the court,&#8221; Ratcliffe said during his <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6352366664112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; appearance</a>.
Ratcliffe contended that prosecutors got &#8220;caught&#8221; when Trump&#8217;s lawyers and the other co-defendants raised the issue of scanned copies not matching up with the records of when they were taken from Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
Smith has &#8220;absolutely blown the chain of custody,&#8221; Ratcliffe emphasized.
Ratcliffe went on to say the classified documents case &#8220;reeks of Crossfire Hurricane, when the Obama-Biden administration fabricated evidence before the FISA court, lied to the court about it to pursue Donald Trump.&#8221;
He was referring to the FBI&#8217;s use of an unverified dossier that raised allegations of collusion between Trump and Russia to obtain the authority to wiretap Carter Page, who served as an aide to Trumps&#8217; 2016 campaign.
&#8220;And now we&#8217;re seeing it again in this classified documents case. The judge could dismiss this case at any point in time, Maria,&#8221; Ratcliffe said.
He surmised the judge has not done so yet in order to let the public &#8220;see just how this case is being prosecuted, how unfairly Donald Trump has been persecuted in this matter by Joe Biden&#8217;s Department of Justice.&#8221;
Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the documents cases and three other criminal matters as he seeks re-election, similarly reacted to Smith&#8217;s filing in Florida by claiming there was evidence tampering.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-FL) slammed NBC News host Kristen Welker this week for trying to run cover for the Democratic Party&#8217;s extreme stance on abortion.
The exchange happened during a Sunday interview on &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; when Welker asked Scott about former President Donald Trump&#8217;s position of leaving the issue up to the states.
&#8220;Well, there&#8217;s no doubt that the Dobbs decision sent it back to the states,&#8221; he said. &#8220;So, the Supreme Court has ruled, the leading candidate, our Republican nominee, has made it very clear that this is a state&#8217;s issue. That is the decision that will be made and we will see how the states handle it. But there&#8217;s no question that President Trump has been very clear that he wants to issue left to the states, with three exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.&#8221;
Scott said that he stands by his view that there should be a 15-week limit on abortions and that he has &#8220;certainly not changed about my position whatsoever.&#8221;
&#8220;The fact of the matter is that every single Democrat in the Senate and in the House have voted for abortion up until the day of birth,&#8221; he noted. &#8220;The former governor of Virginia has said – he was a pediatrician – even infanticide. So, stopping late term abortions is something that 90% of Americans actually believe in –&#8221;
Welker immediately interrupted and claimed: &#8220;Democrats don’t support – that’s false, senator. Democrats don’t support infanticide.&#8221;
&#8220;Kristen, they’ve already voted for it,&#8221; Scott noted.
Welker responded: &#8220;Senator, no, no, no. Senator, but as you know, late term abortions are exceedingly rare.&#8221;
&#8220;They voted for abortions up until the day of birth,&#8221; Scott said. &#8220;I’m just telling you what they voted for.&#8221;
&#8220;Kristen, you cannot deny the fact that the Democrats have voted – not talked about, but voted – for abortions until the day of birth. &#8220;These people are running a Gestapo administration,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;And it’s the only thing they have. And it’s the only way they’re going to win, in their opinion, and it’s actually killing them. But it doesn’t bother me.&#8221;
Trump is on trial in a 2016 election &#8220;hush-money&#8221; case in New York brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He also faces charges in a 2020 election case based in Georgia spearheaded by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a 2020 election case and a classified documents case led by special counsel Jack Smith.
In the criminal matters, as well as in civil litigation regarding his business and personal affairs, Trump has denied any wrongdoing. In addition to pleading not guilty to dozens of charges, Trump has claimed that prosecutors are engaged in a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said the recent anti-Israel protests on college campuses are comparable to what America experienced at universities during the 1960s with demonstrations against the Vietnam War.
Scott made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News&#8217;s &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; with Kristen Welker when asked if he supported the right to protest.
&#8220;Well, we certainly respect the right to peaceful protest,&#8221; he said. &#8220;What we&#8217;re seeing on college campuses, however, is too often not peaceful protest. There&#8217;s a reason why there&#8217;s been more than 2,000 arrests and detainments on college campuses. It&#8217;s because people are being hit. They&#8217;re vandalizing and they&#8217;re breaking into buildings.&#8221;
&#8220;What we have to understand is the anti-Semitism that we&#8217;re seeing on college campuses today is akin to what we saw in the 1960s,&#8221; he continued.

Bob Menendez (D-NJ) as part of a list of politicians who he insisted should resign because they have been indicted.
&#8220;While the bar for Federal indictment is high, trust in our government is low,&#8221; Phillips <a href="https://twitter.com/deanbphillips/status/1786544184490381436" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X. &#8220;That’s why office holders and candidates under indictment should resign or end their campaigns, including Sen. Bob Menendez, Donald Trump, &amp; Rep. Henry Cuellar.&#8221;
The Department of Justice (DOJ) <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/us-congressman-henry-cuellar-and-his-wife-charged-bribery-unlawful-foreign-influence-and" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Friday that Cuellar, a 10-term congressman, and his wife Imelda were charged with allegedly participating in schemes involving bribery, unlawful foreign influence, and money laundering.
Cuellar, 68, accepted $600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities — an energy company controlled by Azerbaijan and a bank headquartered in Mexico City — in exchange for official acts as a member of Congress, the DOJ said.
In a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/05/03/henry-cuellar-texas-azerbaijan/64373556-0966-11ef-b186-090cb777107e_story.html?ref=upstract.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> responding to the indictment, Cuellar said he and his wife were &#8220;innocent of these allegations,&#8221; taking a similarly defiant stance as Trump and Menendez have as they seek to fend off the charges they face.
“Everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas,” Cuellar said. “Before I took action, I proactively sought legal advice from the House Ethics Committee, who gave me more than one written opinion, along with an additional opinion from a national law firm.&#8221;

The DOJ said the Cuellars, who face decades in prison if convicted, surrendered to authorities on Friday and made an initial appearance before a federal judge in Houston before each being released on $100,000 bond, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/henry-cuellar-bribery-indictment-investigation-texas-ec9904da5c51d11600718a3261f73d0c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the Associated Press</a>.
Menendez, who also faces bribery-related charges, has also been pressured to step down by a fellow Democrat — Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) — amid his legal battle.
“Senator Menendez should resign,&#8221; Fetterman <a href="https://www.fetterman.senate.gov/press-releases/fetterman-calls-on-senator-menendez-to-resign/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. &#8220;He’s entitled to the presumption of innocence under our system, but he is not entitled to continue to wield influence over national policy, especially given the serious and specific nature of the allegations. I hope he chooses an honorable exit and focuses on his trial.&#8221;

Among those who joined Trump on stage in the Grand Ballroom for a lunch event were Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tim Scott (R-SC), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, all former 2024 presidential rivals now considered to be in the running for vice president, according to a post to X from his campaign.
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Wesley Hunt (R-TX), who have all been mentioned as part of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kellyanne-conway-offers-insight-into-trump-veepstakes-suggests-person-of-color" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Veepstakes</a> this election cycle, also attended.
Other Republicans who were present included House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), who is running for Senate; Michael Waltz (R-FL); Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick; and Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno.

In a new &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/resisting-indoctrination-abigail-shrier-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunday Special</a>&#8221; interview, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro spoke to author Abigail Shrier about the worsening mental health crisis among today&#8217;s youth.
During their hour-long discussion, Shapiro asked Shrier about some of the themes in her latest book, “Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren’t Growing Up,” released in February.
Shrier posits that the youngest generation might be less resilient because they are encouraged to focus on their bad feelings under the guise of working them out. Therapy, she suggests, might not be helping as much as we think it is.
&#8220;Let&#8217;s talk about what&#8217;s ailing the kids,&#8221; Shapiro began, noting there has been a &#8220;systemic change in therapy&#8221; in recent years. He asked Shrier whether she believes smartphones and social media could be a significant issue for children as well.
Shrier responded that &#8220;a lot of harms&#8221; come from kids having phones, &#8220;but does it totally explain the mental health decline of young people? No, it clearly doesn&#8217;t.&#8221;
Shrier cited federal <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/childrensmentalhealth/data.html#:~:text=1%20in%206%20U.S.%20children,%2C%20behavioral%2C%20or%20developmental%20disorder." target="_blank" rel="noopener">data</a> showing that children eight and under, who are not usually on social media, also have high rates of mental health or behavioral diagnoses.
&#8220;It isn&#8217;t just a question of the phones,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s also a question of the unhealthy life we&#8217;ve given kids which includes this constant therapy, this constant sense from schools, from parents, and yes from therapists that there&#8217;s something wrong with them, that they have trauma, and that they need a diagnosis and medication.&#8221;
&#8220;Shyness. We never hear a kid described as shy. They have social phobia or social anxiety,&#8221; Shrier added. &#8220;Every child who&#8217;s inattentive is told they have ADHD.&#8221;
Later in the discussion, Shapiro noted, &#8220;We&#8217;re telling kids that they ought to be coddled, because we&#8217;ve told adults that they ought to be coddled.&#8221;
&#8220;No one says to a child, &#8216;Shake it off. You&#8217;re fine,'&#8221; Shrier agreed. &#8220;No one is telling kids even at a small level that they can overcome minor injuries, so they don&#8217;t think they can.&#8221;
Shapiro also asked Shrier for her advice to parents currently considering where to send their children to school.
&#8220;Number one, parental authority. Kids need your authority,&#8221; Shrier said. &#8220;Make sure that we communicate our values to our kids. We&#8217;re doing a lousy job of that in the country, and we send them off to school where teachers can&#8217;t wait to pass on their values to your kids, so don&#8217;t let that happen.&#8221;
&#8220;Everyone&#8217;s obsessed with making kids. happy. We should be more focused on making them strong,&#8221; she said.

Former U.S. Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ben-sasse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ben Sasse</a> (R-NE), now the president of the University of Florida, slammed pro-Hamas demonstrators this week who have created chaos on college campuses across the U.S. and the weak leadership at the universities that has allowed the behavior to happen.
Sasse&#8217;s remarks come after the school released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/university-of-florida-slams-leftist-protesters-while-announcing-arrests-not-a-daycare" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> early in the week revealing that numerous arrests were made on campus because the school would not tolerate disorderly conduct that was in violation of the school&#8217;s policies.
&#8220;Higher education has for years faced a slow-burning crisis of public trust,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-adults-are-still-in-charge-at-the-university-of-florida-israel-protests-tents-sasse-eca6389b?mod=opinion_lead_pos7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in an op-ed at The Wall Street Journal. &#8220;Mob rule at some of America’s most prestigious universities in recent weeks has thrown gasoline on the fire. Pro-Hamas agitators have fought police, barricaded themselves in university buildings, shut down classes, forced commencement cancellations, and physically impeded Jewish students from attending lectures.&#8221;
Sasse said that parents were right to be angered over the &#8220;asinine entitlement of these activists and the embarrassing timidity of many college administrators.&#8221;
He said that at the University of Florida, the message that the school sends to parents and the future employers of college students is that &#8220;the adults are still in charge.&#8221;
&#8220;To cherish the First Amendment rights of speech and assembly, we draw a hard line at unlawful action,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Speech isn’t violence. Silence isn’t violence. Violence is violence. Just as we have an obligation to protect speech, we have an obligation to keep our students safe. Throwing fists, storming buildings, vandalizing property, spitting on cops and hijacking a university aren’t speech.&#8221;
He said that school&#8217;s making empty threats to quell bad behavior is not effective and only serves to embolden those who are violating policies.
&#8220;Appeasing mobs emboldens agitators elsewhere,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Moving classes online is a retreat that penalizes students and rewards protesters. Participating in live-streamed struggle sessions doesn’t promote honest, good-faith discussion. Universities need to be strong defenders of the entire community, including students in the library on the eve of an exam, and stewards of our fundamental educational mission.&#8221;
He said that the school made the rules clear to the protesters who were on campus, and many of them decided that the consequences were worth it and have since been arrested and thrown off campus.
&#8220;We said it. We meant it. We enforced it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We wish we didn’t have to, but the students weighed the costs, made their decisions, and will own the consequences as adults. We’re a university, not a daycare. We don’t coddle emotions, we wrestle with ideas.&#8221;

He said that schools needed to &#8220;recommit themselves to real education&#8221; instead of focusing on identity politics and other woke nonsense.
He continued:

Students are taught to divide the world into immutable categories of oppressors and oppressed, and to make sweeping judgements accordingly. With little regard for historical complexity, personal agency or individual dignity, much of what passes for sophisticated thought is quasireligious fanaticism.
The results are now on full display. Students steeped in this dogma chant violent slogans like “by any means necessary.” Any? Paraglider memes have replaced Che Guevara T-shirts. But which paragliders—the savages who raped teenage girls at a concert? “From the river to the sea.” Which river? Which sea?
Young men and women with little grasp of geography or history—even recent events like the Palestinians’ rejection of President Clinton’s offer of a two-state solution—wade into geopolitics with bumper-sticker slogans they don’t understand. For a lonely subset of the anxious generation, these protest camps can become a place to find a rare taste of community. This is their stage to role-play revolution. Posting about your “allergen-free” tent on the quad is a lot easier than doing real work to uplift the downtrodden.</blockquote>
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis set the tone in the state regarding what behavior would not be tolerated on college campuses in the aftermath of the October 7 terrorist attack.
Just a couple of weeks after the attack, DeSantis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-orders-florida-colleges-to-shut-down-pro-palestinian-student-groups-that-expressed-support-for-hamas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered</a> the state to crack down on collegiate student groups that showed support for Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood terrorist attack.
The governor directed Ray Rodrigues, chancellor of the State University System of Florida, to send notices to the University of Florida and the University of South Florida notifying them that they must deactivate their chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) because they allegedly broke Florida laws about terrorism.
“During a holy Jewish holiday, the recognized terrorist organization, Hamas, launched an unprovoked attack on Israel – among those killed were babies, women, and elderly,” Rodrigues said in a letter to the presidents of Florida’s public universities. “To date, approximately 1,400 Israelis have been killed, including 31 American citizens. Governor DeSantis, our State University System and the Florida College System have condemned these attacks.”
In response to the Palestinian Islamic terrorist attack, “National Students for Justice in Palestine (National SJP) released a ‘toolkit’ which refers to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood as ‘the resistance’ and unequivocally states: ‘Palestinian students in exile are PART of this movement, not in solidarity with this movement,’” the letter said.
The letter noted that under Florida law, it is a felony to “knowingly provide material support . . . to a designated foreign terrorist organization. . .” Hamas is designated by the Untied States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
“Here, National SJP has affirmatively identified it is part of the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood—a terrorist led attack,” the letter continued, later adding: “Based on the National SJP’s support of terrorism, in consultation with Governor DeSantis, the student chapters must be deactivated.”
The letter concluded by saying that Florida will continue to monitor events on college campuses and will be “using all tools at our disposal to crack down on campus demonstrations that delve beyond protected First Amendment speech into harmful support for terrorist groups.”

De Niro, who has regularly made comments along these lines for nearly the last decade, renewed his attacks on Trump during an interview on MSNBC this week.
&#8220;I think other people are going to have to stand up and just &#8212; because it&#8217;s either that or you&#8217;re gonna find yourself in a situation that is so terrifying,&#8221; De Niro told MNSBC&#8217;s Stephanie Ruhle. &#8220;We always hear about people from Eastern Europe, the Jews from other parts of Eastern Europe, from Western Europe, coming over, look what happened in France with the Nazis and so on.&#8221;
He said that he never thought that someone like Hitler could take power in the U.S., &#8220;but now I see that it&#8217;s possible.&#8221;
De Niro claimed that there was &#8220;not one redeeming thing in him I can see ever&#8221; and that Trump &#8220;can’t be anywhere near the office of the presidency.&#8221;
&#8220;I don’t understand it. I don’t, I don’t think they understand how dangerous it will be if he ever, God forbid, becomes president. I don’t think they really understand,&#8221; he said of those who will be voting for Trump in 2024.
He continued, &#8220;And historically, from what I’ve seen, even in Nazi Germany, they had it with Hitler. They don’t take him seriously. ‘He looks like a clown. Acts like a clown.’ Mussolini. Same thing. These guys, I don’t know why, they look like clowns.&#8221;
Musk responded to a clip of De Niro from the segment that went viral on X by noting that Trump did not resemble Hitler during his first term in office and he was a very pro-Israel president.
